I grew up in rural Wisconsin where I first became connected to the outdoors through the forest that surrounded my childhood home. My spirituality has drifted away from organized religion in my youth to an appreciation of the natural beauty of the outdoors, the evolution of time, and the scientific mysteries of the universe. The Boy Scout program of my youth as well as my scoutmaster experience with my sons cemented the positive energy I feel particularly in the spectacular outdoor scenery of California and the West.

Being a son of printer and graphic artist, I developed an artistic eye for landscape photography, although my education took me toward a more scientific path. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, I embarked on a career in precision optics which ultimately brought me to the laser fusion program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where they have been advancing the technology of fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars. Recently retired, I now work part-time at Xcimer Energy, a company that is striving to bring fusion, a clean and abundant energy source, to mankind.

Meeting Mary on a sailboat in the San Francisco Bay was a life changing event. Finding a partner that could challenge me both physically and intellectually in healthy ways closed out a painful chapter of a divorce after a long and unfulfilling marriage. Helping with Mary’s healing journey both physically and from past negative relationships has been more fulfilling than any career goal. Moving out of the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area and Central Valley into the Sierra foothills has rekindled the tranquility I felt in the woods growing up as a kid. It is here at Star Fusion Ranch where I’m inspired to be part of the circle of life with nature’s creatures as we are gently shaping the landscape to promote a healing and safe sanctuary for women.
